County Durham is a great place to visit not just
for its strong links with the past but also for its unspoilt country
side and great attractions.
The county is situated in the north east of England
and is surrounded by some famous natural boundaries such as the
Pennines in the west, River Tees in the south, the River Tyne and
Derwent in the north and the North Sea and its rugged cliff tops
to the east.
Durham city is in the centre of the county and
is the county town, Durham city has a fantastic cathedral and castle
which were both inscribed as World Heritage Sites in 1986. Durham
cathedral has an inspiring look to at it towers over the city centre
in all its gothic splendour, the site of the cathedral can be dated
back as far as 900 years, and as one of the best examples of architecture
for its time in England is well worth a visit
